Why are you passionate about newborn care?
I like learning about babies because the information is continually changing and there is always more to learn. There will always be babies in this world whether you care for someone else’s or its your own.
What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received from a client?
I had one family that chose to have a parent stay at home (the dad stayed home) after being there for 7 years and I am still very close with the family and I was up to see them a few months after I left and the mom stood in the kitchen and very loudly proclaimed “letting me go was the worst decision she had ever made”. One other compliment I got was from one of my charges that announced he wanted me to be his nanny until he was 21 years old and went to college.
What do you enjoy about working with new families?
I don’t work with new families very often as being a full time nanny. I actually enjoy longevity over constant change.
Let’s talk newborns: what is your favorite part about caring for newborns?
They are always excepting of you. It doesn’t matter if you are skinny or fat, pretty or not. They love you no matter what because you love them. It is the most accepting point a person is in their life…infant age.
What is next for you? Are you preparing for a new certification or training event?
NNTD. Am interested in the business training coming up from Newborn Care Academy.
What is one fun fact about yourself?
When I was 17 and started watching children professionally and my dad said, “you will never make a career out of this or be able to support yourself”. I continued in this field and it is now 20 years later and I love being able to say, “ha, dad I proved you wrong!” And he has no problem saying, “yes you proved me wrong.”
